The South Asian Women’s Creative Collective (SAWCC) invites submissions from South Asian women artists/directors for our annual film showcase, New Films 2015. Works can address any theme or subject matter. The focus of this screening is to highlight new short films that engage diverse audiences on a range of aesthetic, socio-political, and/or conceptual levels.
New Films 2015 will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at the Asian American Writers Workshop. Presenters will receive a modest honorarium.
This program will be guest curated by Nandita Ahmed.
Submission Guidelines
- Works must be under 15 minutes and produced in 2011 or later.
- Works curated from this CFS must be downloadable. MOV or .MP4 files, preferably in H.264 codec.
- Submissions must include all of the following as a single PDF:
• Name of artist/director.
• Full contact information (address, phone, email, website).
• Title of work, date of production, running time.
• Full credits.
• Direct web link to preview film or video project online.
• Direct web link to download film or video project. We will only download the final set of selected works.
• Project Synopsis (250 words maximum).
• Brief biography of the artist/director (150 words maximum).
• Screening history and awards. - Submissions must be sent via email with a direct web link to the artist/director/project website, YouTube or Vimeo account to view the work online (please provide passwords if necessary).

ABOUT NANDITA AHMED
Nandita Ahmed is an artist, designer, and filmmaker. She graduated from Wellesley College with a major in Media Arts and Sciences in 2004. She started off her career with various TV stations including WGBH in Boston and DoorDarshan in Ahmedabad and then as a Producer / Editor at Fly Communications, a boutique-sized ad agency based in New York City. At Fly Nandita worked on many high-profile accounts including Amazon.com, New York Jets, the French Culinary Institute, and various Condé Nast Publications. Since then, Nandita has started her own shop, Brand Bean LLC, and has expanded her portfolio into documentary films. The first feature length documentary that Nandita has worked on, A JOURNEY OF A THOUSAND MILES: PEACEKEEPERS is a film about an all-female team of UN Peacekeepers. The film premiered at TIFF 2015 and will have its NY premiere at DOC NYC in November. The film focuses on Muslim women defying stereotypes by serving on mission for a year as UN Peacekeepers. Nandita doubled up as Field Producer and Editor and occasionally lent a hand on camera as well. Nandita was born and raised in Dhaka, Bangladesh and resides in Brooklyn, New York.

The South Asian Women’s Creative Collective (SAWCC) is a nonprofit arts organization dedicated to the advancement, visibility, and development of emerging and established South Asian women artists and creative professionals by providing a physical and virtual space to profile their creative and intellectual work across disciplines.
