WHAT WE DO
LISTSERV
The SAWCC listserv was started in 1999 as a community bulletin board for professional and emerging South Asian women artists to share resources, as well as information about activities and events. The list began with approximately 15 people. Today, the listserv hosts over 1000 women of South Asian descent, representing artists of all disciplines.
MONTHLY MEETINGS
The monthly meetings are organized to present a forum for featuring the creative works of women of South Asian descent. Each month, two women present their work, followed by Q&A, offering a space for critical feedback and constructive dialogue. These meetings are open to all women of South Asian descent.
BROWN EYED GIRLS
Brown Eyed Girls is SAWCC’s writing workshop for fiction and nonfiction writers, which meets regularly throughout the year. BEG was created in spring 2002, in response to the needs of the SAWCC's literary membership for a structured space within which to workshop pieces and receive critical feedback.
STUDIO CIRCLE
SAWCC’s studio circle for practicing visual artists consists of a dozen women of Indian, Pakistani, and Iranian heritage. This group meets bi-monthly at the studio of a different artist to critique work and provide space for collaborations and networking, as studio critiques provide a deeper way to meet the needs of practicing visual artists.
